NUR 105 - Nurse Assistant

Prerequisite: Approved Application
Training in job entry skills needed to care for people with varying degrees of health and personal needs in an institution or home setting. Addresses attitudes and behaviors that promote physical and emotional health, basic nursing and personal care skills, communications, safety, and application of learned skills. Successful completion of this course prepares the student to take the state competency exam.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate accurate documentation of care.
  • Exhibit proper safety techniques including working within the certified nursing assistant (CENA) scope of practice.
  • Interact professionally with residents, nursing staff and other team members.
  • Assist the nurse by completing delegated tasks.
  • Exhibit professionalism (confidentiality, privacy & teamwork) in the classroom and in the clinical setting.
  • Display sensitivity to resident’s emotional, social, cultural, mental and physical needs through skillful directed interactions.
  • Practice infection control and the prevention of communicable diseases.
  • Demonstrate preparedness for the state CENA testing.
