MUS 116 - Piano Class II

Prerequisite: MUS 114 - Piano Class I, or instructor permission
Intermediate level piano/keyboarding course. Builds on foundational skills acquired in MUS 114; scales, chords, improvisation, transposition of patterns and basic music theory at the keyboard. Includes performances of level appropriate pieces of piano literature.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Identify musical symbols utilized most frequently.
Be able to sight read both simple rhythms and melodies
Read and play melodies, harmonies and chords on the keyboard.
Play all major and minor scales and arpeggios
Understand the basic structure of Western Tonality and the Major/Minor system.
Be willing (and relatively comfortable) to use keyboard skills in public performance.
