This course will focus on early literacy development; listening, speaking, viewing, reading, writing, and visual representing for children birth to age twelve. Focus will include the definition, differing philosophies, and activities to promote the foundations of early literacy, while assisting future educators to understand the importance of creating a culturally appropriate literacy environment. Course assignments will focus on pedagogy and professional reflection based on the role that teachers play in promoting an inclusive early literacy environment.
