LIT 205 - Young Adult Literature

Prerequisite: ENG 111 - English Composition I  with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale)
Introduction to the significance of young adult literature both in education and in literary and cultural contexts.  Considers a range of books written for teens from multiple genres and addressing multiple themes (e.g. personal identity, sexual awareness, interpersonal relationships, social justice, and individual empowerment).  Particular emphasis on ethnic and racial identity, intersectionality, and related multicultural concerns.  Features discussion of and writing about the work young adult literature performs in schools, communities, families, and personal experiences.
