The Communications pathway is designed for students who wish to explore and prepare for a wide range of transfer options. With a focus on writing and speaking for different audiences and purposes, as well as using current technologies to maximize the impact of their message, students pursuing the Communications pathway will be well-positioned to enter the workplace with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as a professional writer or communications specialist.
In developing academic and professional communication skills, students will learn how to collect, analyze, and present information in a variety of forms. Specifically, this pathway will provide skills much in demand in most workplaces, including oral presentations, audience analysis, listening, decision making, verbal and non-verbal communication, intercultural awareness, interpersonal communication, and group communication dynamics.
The value of strong communication skills cannot be overestimated in its importance in any successful career. Few professions exist in which effective writing, speaking, and listening are not highly valued. Students following this pathway will gain a solid foundation for pursuing a wide range of career options and furthering their education in Communications, English, or a related field, such as those listed below:
